  • The employee involved in the robbery says bosses told her to remove the cash.
  • The suspect remains in jail this week on suspicion of theft.
  • According to officials, it is unclear how the money was removed from the casino.

A huge amount of cash was taken from the Monarch Casino Resort and Spa this month, to the tune of $500,000. The incident is the biggest theft from a casino ever to take place in Colorado since gambling began in the early 90s. But is it really a robbery? The employee connected to the incident says she was told by individuals believed to be her bosses to remove the cash.

Details of the Incident

Sabrina Eddy was working at the Colorado casino on March 12 when she received a phone call after midnight along with text messages. She was told by men she believed to be bosses of the casino that money was to be taken out of the cage to pay for an attorney.

Surveillance cameras of the casino show Eddy placing $50,000 of money bricks into a box and loading the money into a minivan. She then got into the minivan and drove to a location where she was told to go. Eddy then gave the money to a man at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver near the emergency room.

Eddy called the casino a short time later and said she had taken the money. She also said she might be arrested for the incident. She continues to state that she followed orders when she took the money.

The Investigation is Underway

Colorado Division of Gaming officials are leading the investigation and have yet to make a statement on the heist. They have stated that active administrative and criminal investigations are taking place regarding the incident.

The Division has teamed up with local law enforcement on the matter and other partners to conduct the investigation. They are not going to comment any further until the process is completed. We expect more information will be provided to the public once the investigation comes to an end. Small thefts have occurred in Colorado over the years, but this is the largest by far ever in the state.

It is unclear if the Monarch Casino has plans to upgrade its security or protocols due to the incident. It seems suspicious that Eddy could remove such large quantities of cash from the casino without question. If she happens to be telling the truth, it was certainly a naïve move on her part to take such a large collection of cash from the premises.
