Proposed Live! Casino & Hotel LouisianaSummary

  • Diamond Jacks has been closed since March 2020.
  • The property would shift from riverboat casino to a land-based one.
  • Opening day is scheduled for 2025.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board heard a new plan this week by the Cordish Companies to redevelop one of its existing venues. The Diamond Jacks Casino & Hotel in Bossier City was closed in March 2020 during the onset of the pandemic.

The casino never reopened and now the owner has new plans. Cordish would like to bring the riverboat casino to land and rebrand the property as a LIVE! casino resort.

Bringing a New Casino to Louisiana

Cordish Companies would like to revitalize the casino and bring something new and exciting to Louisiana. If the plans are completed on time, the “LIVE! Casino & Hotel Louisiana” would open in 2025. Cordish Companies Managing Partner Joe Weinberg stated that the company was excited to show the plans to the Board and thanked them for their ‘enthusiastic support’ of the project.

The new casino would offer a world-class resort, with quality gaming, dining, entertainment, and hospitality. New jobs would be offered in the state alone with the property able to generate millions for the economy.

Demolition of the property began in February and Cordish will continue to get the area ready for the new Live! casino to be constructed.

More on the Casino

LIVE! Casino & Hotel Louisiana would cost around $250 million to complete. The casino would house around 47,000 square feet of space for gaming. Over 1,000 slots are planned for the site plus electronic table games and live table games.

The resort hotel will include over 400 guest rooms and an event center with 25,000 square feet of space. Surface and structured parking are in the plans along with dining and entertainment options.

The Board is eager about the project and pointed out that Cordish Companies offers first-class destinations across the country. Board members thanked the state for bringing its expertise and major investments to the market.

The Board also showed its appreciation to Foundation Gaming as it was their vision that started the plan to rebuild the casino property that has been closed for more than three years now. The Board will continue to work with Cordish Companies and the Foundation as the project becomes a reality.

The new casino is expected to bring millions of visitors to the location as well as substantial jobs. Tax revenues will be significant which will help to improve the community as a whole.
