Summary
- The casino allowed individuals to walk around in restricted areas.
- $10,000 in fines and $2,500 in costs were handed down by regulators.
- The enforcement action was a first for the casino since it opened in January 2021.
An incident that occurred in 2021 at a Pennsylvania Casino known as Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia came to light this week via the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
A lawyer for the Board presented an accounting of something that happened in May 2021, where an individual was able to spend several hours wandering around the restricted areas of the casino without being removed.
Accessing Restricted Areas of the Casino
The female thief was able to spend several hours moving about the restricted areas of the casino without repercussions. She walked into offices and the lounge for casino dealers, all the while going through purses and desk drawers. She took wallets, a cell phone and voucher paper that is used in slot machines during her foray in the back areas.
The attorney for the Board talked about what happened during a meeting yesterday and discussed how the individual moved through the back of house areas. These portions of the casino are off-limits to patrons and an area where regular individuals should not be going.
Officials of the casino had a hard time listening to the recounting of the tale. It seems that someone would have eventually caught on and removed her from the premises.
Consent Agreement Approved
On Wednesday, the gaming regulator approved a consent agreement that was signed by Cordish Gaming, the company behind the casino. The owner will pay a fine of $10,000 and then $2,500 in costs. The official discipline mentions failure to secure off-limits areas of the property.
Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia first opened in January 2021 and has been operating ever since, with this being the first time the property faced a disciplinary action. The casino reportedly took action after the incident to ensure that such an issue would not happen again.
Electronic access panels were added to doorways and security officers have been told to check doors when they complete their rounds. Staff members are also instructed to ask people that are not wearing a casino badge what they are doing in the area.
Despite these changes, three individuals were able to get into a restricted area in February of this year. The individuals moved through the restricted area after they were not allowed to go inside the casino. They were unable to provide COVID-19 vaccination, which is why entry was denied. The individuals were removed later on after they were found playing casino games having made it from the back area into the casino.
