This week, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians announced the beginning of construction on the Louisville Travel Plaza.
It may appear that the project is a truck stop, but it’s much more than that. The property located on Highway 25 will include a gas station, convenience store, restaurant and casino.
Bringing a One-Stop Shop to Mississippi
Work has already begun on the Louisville Travel Plaza, and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is excited to get the ball rolling. The casino portion of the property is set to have a sportsbook for sports fans and around 150 slot machines.
The goal of the tribe is to replicate the success they have seen in other areas of the state and bring new revenues to Winston County. Chief Cyrus Ben stated that it is exciting for the local community and the tribe as they create new growth in the area.
Once the Louisville Plaza is open for business, it will offer around 100 jobs. The project is expected to be completed by next summer.
Attracting a Variety of Customers
The new casino gaming location was picked for its ability to bring in a wide player base. Chief Ben pointed out in an interview that the area is close to Mississippi State University, which offers a large population, and the city of Starkville. Traffic from the area also goes up to the golden triangle area, which will help bring more revenues overall to the state of Mississippi.
The tribe is also partners with the golden triangle area and has worked hard to establish relationships in several areas of the state. The economic development of the tribe has been significant and is helping to bring more jobs and much-needed revenues to the area.
City leaders in Louisville are also excited about the opportunities that the tribe is bringing to the region. Mayor Will Hill commented that the city is ready to create an even stronger bond with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and other partners. The tribe has owned the land in Louisville since the 1960s, and it will now be utilized for something totally different that should benefit the area in a major way.
It will be interesting to watch as the new casino is created and if this format of truck stop gaming will work for the state. Will it bring in enough people to build solid revenues for the tribe and the state?
