The Ohio Casino Control Commission recently announced the winnings for operators, showing that $196 million was generated for May. It was a solid month for the state, as the gaming industry has already crushed the $1 billion mark for 2023.
New Monthly Totals
The $196 million generated in May was a decrease of 3% when compared to the $202 million from last year. So far this year, the state has earned $1 billion, an increase of around $16 million when considering the 2022 totals from the same time frame.
The four casinos in the state are able to offer slots and table games. They brought in just over $80 million for the month. This was around $6.7 million lower than last year. There are seven racinos in Ohio, which the venues able to offer horse racing and slots. These operators generated $115.3 million.
The racinos actually saw a slight uptick in yearly earnings. It was less than $1 million, but still a nice increase overall.
Individual Operator Earnings
The big casino earner for May was Hollywood Columbus with $22,387,443 in earnings. The casino saw a nice increase from last’ years $21.9 million. Next up is JACK Cleveland Casino, bringing in just over $20.7 million. The casino was down though for the month, having earned $22.3 million last year.
Hard Rock Cincinnati took third place, earning $19.5 million. This was a significant drop from $21.8 million in 2022. Hollywood Toledo rounds out the list, dropping from $20.5 million last year to $17.8 million this year.
For racinos, the top earner was MGM Northfield Park. The casino brought in just over $25.6 million. This was an increase from the $24.3 million last year. Miami Valley Gaming took the number two spot, earning $20.2 million this year, a nice increase from 2022’s $18.9 million.
Scioto Downs came in third, earning $19.7 million. This was a drop from over $20 million. The remaining racinos brought in $15 million less for the month. Each saw a decrease in monthly totals.
It will be interesting to see how the casinos and racinos fare going into the next few months. The state is already on pace for a record year in general, but the summer months tend to be much slower due to vacationing and outdoor activities.
