Gaming commissioners in Nevada have given the green light to the new Durango Casino, a luxury property owned and soon operated by Red Rock Resorts.
The new Nevada casino will open on November 20, offering players exciting gaming options, dining, and more. Ahead of the opening, the casino has received tens of thousands of applications from potential employees looking to be part of the new venue.
Details of the New Casino
The General Manager of Durango Casino, David Horn, stated that the property will have 209 guest rooms and 28 suites. A pit will feature just over 60 table games such as blackjack and roulette and around 2,300 slot machines. The casino will include a high-limit area where players can enjoy the more expensive gaming options.
Along with gaming, the casino will feature amazing dining options, including an exclusive steakhouse and seafood establishment. There will be an oyster house plus sushi and noodle restaurants. Burgers and pizza dining will also be featured.
The new casino is one of seven properties that parent company Station Casinos plans to open in the next ten years. While the company is opening new venues and bringing in gaming options plus additional revenues, they have shut down a few casinos that have underperformed in the market over the years. It will be interesting to see how this one fares once it is operational.
Enthusiasm on the Job Front
The community is excited for the new casino to open as an entertainment source but also for employment reasons. The new venue has seen 25,000 applications come through, and there are plans to hire around 1,450 people. Tenant partners will hire another 400 to 500 people.
As of this week, around 55% of the employees needed have been hired. The percentage is expected to grow over the next few weeks as the venue gets closer to opening. A good portion of the already hired individuals come from other Station Casinos.
It’s important to note that Station Casinos’s parent company is still in a labor dispute with the Culinary Workers Local 226. A recent hearing on the matter saw employees speak out against the operator as well as for. Gaming commissioners have yet to comment as active litigation is pending with the National Labor Relations Board.
Despite having a labor issue and fighting unions for quite some time, Station Casinos still has drawn interest from the public for its open positions, with more than enough people vying for a shot at working with the gaming brand.
