Summary
- Businesses include Starbucks, Crossings Café, and Topgolf.
- BetRivers will supply the on-site sportsbook.
- The casino will offer a destination style location.
After breaking ground in December 2021, the Rivers Casino Portsmouth is on its way to becoming a full-scale casino resort destination.
This week, officials announced seven new businesses that will be part of the venue once it opens in 2023. Dining options as well as entertainment facilities are included.
What Will the Casino Resort Offer?
Along with casino gaming, the Virginia casino property will be home to dining and activities. Guests can enjoy drinks at Starbucks or dining at Admiral’s Steak & Seafood. Mian, Crossings Café and Slice Pizzeria will offer additional dining options.
For entertainment, guests can travel to the casino and practice their golf swing via the Topgolf Swing Suite. For sports fans, the casino will offer a BetRivers branded sportsbook. The goal is to create a destination style venue that will help the city continue to grow and prosper.
Officials of the casino went out into the local community to see what type of activities and dining that is enjoyed in the area. They then used that information to build the businesses that will call the Rivers Portsmouth Casino home.
With the many new businesses set to open at the casino, it gives visitors even more to explore on-site. Players can enjoy casino gaming, a little golf, coffee, dining, and drinks from several different locations. It appears as though everything is shaping up to get the casino ready for action by next year.
Plenty of Employment Opportunity
The casino is helping the community in a variety of ways, including adding more employment options. A total of 1,300 permanent jobs will open once the casino is up and running. The new businesses will contribute around 300 positions.
Rivers has hosted several job fairs in an attempt to hire the individuals they need for a variety of positions. The job fairs brought people in for interviews and the casino is also hosting a dealer school to train more than 200 people how to operate live dealer casino games.
According to Roy Corby, the casino’s general manager, the job fairs continue to bring out more people to consider for open positions. Many people that have applied are from the Hampton Roads area and around 40% of the applicants thus far live locally.
This weekend, the casino will host two job fairs as it continues to seek additional employees. The Portsmouth Sportsplex will host the event. In September, the casino will have another hiring event to try and round out its employees.
